Good Medicine?

Potent Pill

Potent Pill

I can’t really decide if I should take this pill or not.

Ok…let me give you a little backgroud for that statement. A few days ago I started having an intense pain in my lower left abdominal area. Yeah. Not fun. So I tried to just ignore it for a little while, thinking maybe I was just being a wimp about it all. By the third day, I was doubling over in pain. I then had to admit, something was not right.

I reluctantly went to the doctor. At that time more concerned with the cost I would have to pay, rather then my internal pain. I thought to myself that it would probably be nothing and I would end up paying a ton of money for a doctor to tell me that I was making it up.

Boy…was I wrong!

The doctor was awesome! That was great comfort to me, as I seem to have a weird fear of doctors. He was very proactive in getting things taken care of, and told me two potential conditions, based on my symptoms. Not only that, but he sent me to get a CT Scan done…and got me in right away. How often does that happen?! Anyway, the CT technician told me that my doctor should get back to me within the next 3 days. 10 minutes later he called me and told me my diagnosis and called in prescriptions for me.

Which leads me back to my first statement.  I can’t really decide if I should take this pill or not. This is the one for pain. I took it this morning and it did take away the pain, but it left me feeling extremely nauseous! Of course it also says that I shouldn’t operate heavy machinery and all that good stuff. Hmmm.

Makes me wonder…is this really good medicine? If it makes me sick in another way?

Well, I think I’m going to put the pill up, skip the nauseous feeling and just try to sleep it off.

What kind of antibiotics did you get? Some of them can make you nauseous also. Doxycycline think was the one that RK took that made her extremely woozy.

It sucks when the cure is worse than the disease…

Glad you are feeling better. :) I hate pills that make me nauseous – no fun at all.

In your blog post you talked about your concern over the cost of the treatment and also your fear of doctors. If we had free health care in the U.S. do you think you would have gone in sooner to the doc? Or would your fear of doc’s still made you put off the visit? I’m curious because I’ve heard a lot of stories lately about people putting because of the soaring costs in the U.S. :)

I’m happy you are taking care of yourself. :)

L- Yeah it does such when the cure is worse then the disease! The antibiotic is Ciprofloxacin. With a name like that…well, it just scares me a lil.

RK- Thanks! And yes, I would have gone to a doctor far sooner if health care were free. Oh goodness….I could go on and on about how I think our health care system needs an overhaul…but I’ll save that one for another day. ;)
